    Hunan Forest Botanical Garden is located in Changsha (the capital city of Hunan

Province), which was built in 1985. The Garden is a public scientificresearch unit belonging to the Forestry Department of Hunan Province. In1992 and 1994, the Garden

was approved by State Forestry Ministry as Tianjiling National Forest Park and Hunan Wildlife Rescue & ReproductionCenter successively. The Garden covers the area of 120 hectares, with the

forest coverage of 90%.
    There are more than 4000 varieties of plants in 2328 species, 900 genera of 208 families by introduction, domestication,and Ex situ conservation, and 112 kinds of wildlife by adoption, rescue anddomestication, including the national first-class protective plants and animals,such as silver fir, Chinese dove tree, Tragopan caboti, and so on. The current Garden has 9 botanical gardens, including Prunus Serrulata Garden,Magnolia Garden, Shady Plant Garden, Rare Plant Garden, State Azalea Garden, Bamboo Garden, Camellia Garden, Sweet Olive Garden, and Color Leaf Tree Garden; meanwhile, the Garden is planning to build other botanicalgardens, such as offcinal garden, liane garden, and world-famous flower garden. In recent 25 years, the Garden has been responsible for 90 national, ministerial or provincial scientific research projects; 40 projects have been honored by ministerial or provincial department as progress prize in scienceand technology. More than 200 articles were published, as well as 10 scientific books. In the Garden, there is the earliest-built Plant Tissue Culture Center with the domestic advanced level, the biggest Tragopan Caboti Reproduction Base in the world, with hundreds of Tragopan caboti varieties,and the first national ¡°Publicity and Education Center for Forest and WetlandBiodiversity Protection¡±, which the center was co-built by Forestry Department of Hunan Province, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and Finland Forest & Park Service, and was opened freely in Sep 1999.
    The Garden has built the good cooperation relationships with over 20 domestic or foreign botanical gardens, received visits and academic exchanges from more than 800 foreign guests in over 40 countries, and developed the cooperation investigation on Hunan cryptogam with University of Helsinki, Finland in 1998-2001. Through the struggle of several garden-person generations, The Garden has been honored as ¡°National Ecological Culture Education Base¡±, ¡°National Teenager Sci-Tech Education Base¡±, and ¡°National Forestry Science Popularization Education Base¡±. 
    Currently, under the correct guide of superior leaders and the powerful support of related departments, with the struggle of garden staff and the advance with the times, the Garden is developing into an integrative botanical garden with animal and plant in particularity, and engaging into scientific research & manufacture, science popularization, ecological tourism, and sports leisure.
